Caitlin Clark Shatters Rookie Record in Thrilling Fever Victory

Caitlin Clark set a new WNBA record for most three-pointers made by a rookie during the Indiana Fever’s 84-80 victory over the Connecticut Sun on Wednesday. Clark hit her 86th three-pointer of the season just minutes into the game, surpassing Rhyne Howard’s previous record of 85, established during her 2022 rookie year when she was named Rookie of the Year.

In the game, Clark contributed 19 points, including three three-pointers, along with five rebounds, five assists, one steal, and one block, despite recording seven turnovers. She finished with a shooting line of 7-for-17 overall and 3-for-12 from deep.

This victory marks Indiana’s first win against the Sun in four attempts this season and brings them closer to a .500 record and a potential playoff spot, as the team has not made the postseason since 2016.

After Connecticut started strong with an 8-2 lead, the Fever responded with a 20-7 run, ending the first quarter up 33-26. They maintained their lead through the half at 51-42 and ended the third quarter ahead 69-66. With the score tied at 80-80 with under three minutes remaining, Clark drove to the basket for a crucial basket, giving Indiana the lead. After both teams missed opportunities to score, Lexie Hull sealed the win with two successful free throws.

All five starters for the Fever scored in double digits, led by Kelsey Mitchell’s 23 points. The team shot well from beyond the arc, making 13 of 30 attempts for a shooting percentage of 43.3%.

The game was attended by several notable athletes, including Olympic gold medalists Simone Biles and Gabby Thomas, adding to the event’s star quality.
