Cade Cunningham and the Detroit Pistons are set to face the Indiana Pacers on Monday evening, but Cunningham’s participation remains uncertain as he is listed on the injury report with a hip contusion. The star guard was deemed questionable for the matchup.
Cunningham initially sustained the injury in a close November 10 victory against the Washington Wizards, where he showcased an impressive performance, scoring 46 points while contributing 11 assists, five steals, and two blocks over 44 minutes of play. However, he was sidelined for the subsequent games against the Chicago Bulls and Philadelphia 76ers. Remarkably, the Pistons maintained their momentum, securing two consecutive wins in his absence and currently boasting the longest winning streak in the NBA.
Despite hopes for his return, it appears that Cunningham will sit out again. Head coach JB Bickerstaff had indicated that Cunningham would be a game-time decision, but the decision has ultimately led to another night off for the talented guard.
This season, Cunningham has experienced a mixed performance. After a solid preseason, he struggled initially with turnovers, amassing 22 in the first four games. However, he has since improved, averaging fewer than three turnovers per game as the team has found success. Across 11 games this season, he is averaging 27.5 points, shooting 43 percent from the field, and sinking 28 percent of his three-pointers on 6.6 attempts per game. Additionally, he is contributing 9.9 assists and 5.4 rebounds, all while vying for a second consecutive All-Star selection following a stellar 2024-2025 campaign.
The Pistons are preparing to take on the Pacers at 7 PM ET on Monday, and fans are eager to see how the team continues to develop, especially in Cunningham’s absence. Positive momentum appears to be on their side as they look to extend their winning streak.
