Billy Porter and Marisha Wallace are set to headline the Tony-nominated revival of Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club, located at the August Wilson Theatre, starting July 22. Recently released production images provide a glimpse of these final stars of the show. Both performers reprise their roles from the acclaimed West End debut, with Porter taking on the iconic role of the Emcee and Wallace portraying Sally Bowles. The Broadway iteration of Cabaret officially opened on April 21, 2024, and performances will run through October 19.
The production features an impressive cast alongside Porter and Wallace, including Calvin Leon Smith as Clifford Bradshaw, Steven Skybell as Herr Schultz, Ellen Harvey as Fraulein Schneider, Henry Gottfried as Ernst Ludwig, and Michelle Aravena as Fritzie/Kost.
The immersive experience of Cabaret continues in the revival, transforming the theater into an in-the-round Kit Kat Club. This unique setup allows ticket holders to enjoy a “club entry time” before the performance, which may include a full dinner at select ticket levels. As a prelude to the show, a prologue company of 12 dancers and musicians entertains the audience with a performance set to begin approximately 75 minutes ahead of curtain time.
Cabaret, based on Christopher Isherwood’s Goodbye to Berlin and John Van Druten’s I Am a Camera, is set against the backdrop of Weimar-era Berlin. The story follows American writer Clifford Bradshaw as he arrives to work on his novel and dive into the vibrant nightlife, where he meets English cabaret performer Sally Bowles. Their complex relationship unfolds as the rise of the Nazis signals the approaching darkness of World War II.
This revival is being brought to life by a talented creative team, including choreographer Julia Cheng and set and costume designer Tom Scutt. The production’s lighting design is overseen by Isabella Byrd, with sound design by Nick Lidster. Music supervision and direction are handled by Jennifer Whyte, among other skilled contributors.
