C.J. Mosley, a distinguished linebacker recognized for his exceptional performance in the NFL, has announced his retirement after an impressive 11-season career. The five-time All-Pro, who played for both the Baltimore Ravens and the New York Jets, shared his decision with CBS Sports.
Mosley was selected in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Ravens and had a remarkable start to his career, being named an All-Pro four times during his five seasons with Baltimore. He later joined the Jets, where he spent the past six years. Unfortunately, his final season was marred by injuries, limiting him to just four games in 2022 due to a herniated disc in his neck, which ultimately led to his release by the Jets in March.
Throughout his career, Mosley amassed impressive statistics, including 1,083 tackles, 12 sacks, and 12 interceptions, along with 53 additional pass break-ups. Notably, prior to his injury-riddled last season, he recorded at least 152 tackles for three consecutive years with the Jets, tying him for the most consecutive seasons with at least 150 tackles in NFL history. His five years with the Ravens were equally remarkable, where he contributed significantly to the team’s high-ranking scoring defense.
Before joining the NFL, Mosley was a standout player at the University of Alabama, earning recognition as a two-time All-American and a two-time national champion. He was awarded the Butkus Award and named the SEC defensive player of the year in 2013 during his successful college career under coach Nick Saban.
