Brigham Young University (BYU) has bolstered its roster for the upcoming season with the commitment of 5-star recruit Bruce Branch. The announcement was made during ESPN’s NBA Today show, marking a significant milestone for BYU basketball as they continue to attract top talent.

Branch, who was previously regarded as the number one player in the 2027 class, recently reclassified to the 2026 class and is now ranked sixth according to 247 Sports. The 6-foot-7 wing currently plays for Prolific Prep in Florida but has roots in Arizona, having attended Perry High School in Gilbert.

Scout comparisons have drawn parallels between Branch and NBA forward Mikal Bridges of the New York Knicks, particularly highlighting Branch’s shooting capabilities, length, and defensive skills. “His comp is Mikal Bridges with his shot-making, length and defensive abilities. He’s not AJ but he’s really good,” one scout noted.

BYU has actively pursued Branch for several months, with coaches making multiple visits to evaluate his talent. Notably, they hosted him for an official visit on January 26. The coaching style of Kevin Young, particularly his work with current players like AJ Dybantsa, Egor Demin, and Richie Saunders, has resonated with Branch during the recruiting process. Known for his sharp shooting and scoring ability, Branch could potentially be a lottery pick in the 2027 NBA Draft if he decides to enter early. While there are areas for him to improve, his high-level shooting and defensive potential position him as a vital player for BYU alongside Rob Wright.

Branch’s addition also highlights the recruiting prowess of Coach Young and the financial support from BYU boosters. This development marks the third consecutive year Young has secured a 5-star recruit, following the signings of Egor Demin and AJ Dybantsa. Branch’s arrival is expected to help fill the void left by departing players and will position him as a contender for the Big 12 Freshman of the Year award next season.

Fans can look forward to watching Branch showcase his skills in the coming college basketball season as BYU continues to build a strong competitive team.
