Brigham Young University (BYU) has made a significant addition to its football program with the signing of Cade Uluave, a standout linebacker from California. Known for his impressive performances, Uluave comes to BYU as a highly rated 4-Star transfer according to 247 Sports, and is recognized as the top linebacker in the transfer portal.
Hailing from South Jordan, Utah, Uluave has spent the last three seasons making a mark at Cal. This past season, he earned First-Team All-ACC honors, tallying an impressive 97 tackles and 3 sacks. Over his collegiate career, he accumulated 235 tackles, 6 sacks, 3 interceptions, and 2 forced fumbles. His talent was further highlighted when he was named the Pac-12 Defensive Freshman of the Year in 2023.
While Michigan was considered a strong contender for Uluave’s commitment, BYU ultimately secured his services, marking a significant win for the program. Uluave is expected to transform BYU’s defense, joining forces with fellow linebackers Siale Esera and Isaiah Glasker to form what could be the strongest linebacking trio in the Big 12. With the departure of standout Jack Kelly, Uluave’s capabilities on the field will be crucial in maintaining BYU’s competitive edge.
Beyond just filling a key position, Uluave brings additional star power to a team that has successfully retained its top eligible players. With his impressive speed and tackling ability, Uluave aims to elevate BYU’s defense into one of the foremost in the country. His potential was evident at the Senior Bowl, where he garnered praise for his quickness and agility, affirming BYU’s decision to bring him on board as a vital defensive asset.
