BYU Dominates Colorado in Alamo Bowl: A Victory to Remember!

In an impressive display of teamwork and strategy, No. 17 BYU secured a dominant victory over 20th-ranked Colorado, winning 36-14 in the Alamo Bowl. This triumph marked BYU’s third bowl win in four attempts and showcased their ability to score consistently across all quarters of the game.

L.J. Martin led the Cougars’ offense with 93 rushing yards and two touchdowns, while quarterback Jake Retzlaff added 151 passing yards. A key moment of the match came from sophomore Parker Kingston, who electrified the crowd with a 64-yard punt return touchdown that put the Cougars up 17-0 during the second quarter.

Reflecting on the team’s journey, Martin emphasized the hard work put in during the off-season after missing a bowl game last year. “It started back in January,” he noted, highlighting the motivation that drove the team to succeed this season.

On the defensive side, BYU’s strategy included employing various looks to confuse Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders. The Cougars’ defense effectively stifled Colorado, allowing only 210 total yards and just two net yards rushing, showcasing a level of dominance rare in college football. Sanders faced significant pressure, getting sacked three times and throwing two interceptions.

BYU linebacker Isaiah Glasker was acknowledged as the Defensive MVP, tallying eight tackles, and Martin earned the Offensive MVP title. The Cougars’ robust performance was further complemented by Will Ferrin’s field goals from long distances, solidifying the team’s commanding lead.

Despite Colorado’s struggles offensively, with coach Deion Sanders acknowledging the great effort from BYU, the game highlighted the challenges teams face in high-stakes situations.

Looking ahead, BYU will kick off its 2025 season against Portland State, while Colorado will face Georgia Tech at home on August 30.

This victory not only adds to BYU’s momentum but also serves as a testament to their resilience and dedication as a team. Fans can remain optimistic about the future as the Cougars continue to build on their successes.
