BYU Basketball Lands Top Utah Recruit: What’s Next for Dean Rueckert?

Dean Rueckert, a standout basketball player from Timpview High School in Provo, Utah, has committed to the BYU basketball program as he transitions to the collegiate level. Rueckert, a talented 6-foot-8 wing known for his sharpshooting, chose BYU over other notable programs including Washington, Clemson, Stanford, and Utah. He made his announcement live on CBS Sports College Basketball’s YouTube channel.

Ranked as the 85th overall prospect nationally in the 2026 recruiting cycle by the 247Sports Composite, Rueckert is also recognized as the highest-rated recruit from a public school in Utah. In state rankings, he stands at 68th overall, with only prospects from Wasatch Academy or Utah Prep ranked higher.

Rueckert’s decision marks BYU’s first commitment for the class of 2026. His official visit to Provo included a conversation with BYU basketball legend Jimmer Fredette, further solidifying his connection to the program. His recent performances, particularly at the Peach Jam in Georgia, have highlighted his potential, and a previous standout game where he scored 31 points against Notre Dame Prep has drawn significant attention.

The early signing period for college basketball recruits is set to begin on November 12.

This commitment is a promising step for BYU’s basketball future, especially as they continue to build their roster amidst competition in the Big 12 Conference. The excitement around Rueckert’s decision showcases the thriving basketball talent emerging from Utah, suggesting a bright future for both the player and the program.
