A bus driver has been charged following a serious accident involving a police officer’s patrol vehicle in Roseland, New Jersey. The incident occurred on June 20 when Djimmy Evra, 40, allegedly drove an NJ Transit bus through a red light, colliding with Officer Marc Miller’s marked patrol car at the intersection of Livingston Avenue and Prudential Drive around 4:10 p.m. As a result of the crash, Officer Miller was transported by medical helicopter to University Hospital with significant injuries.
Evra now faces charges of fourth-degree assault by auto and related offenses. In a statement, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II emphasized the preventability of the incident, condemning reckless driving that endangers lives.
Amid the ongoing recovery process for Officer Miller, who is currently receiving rehabilitation at Kessler’s Institute, community support has surged. A GoFundMe campaign has been established to assist his family, which includes a young daughter. Furthermore, a “Dine to Donate” event is arranged at Franklin Steakhouse and Tavern, where a portion of the earnings will contribute to the Roseland Police Foundation, reflecting the community’s dedication to supporting the officer during his long recovery journey.
NJ PBA President Peter Andreyev expressed solidarity, stating, “Our thoughts and prayers are with our officer and his family as he continues to recover,” highlighting the importance of accountability and justice for public servants working diligently on the front lines.
