Buried Secrets: What’s Under This Backyard Rug?

A woman and her boyfriend, Brandon, discovered a rug buried under a tree while working in their backyard this week, prompting a police investigation amid online speculation that it could potentially be a dead body.

Katie Santry, a local content creator from Columbus, Ohio, shared her experience on TikTok after uncovering a rug while digging holes to install a fence. This discovery sparked many questions as the story unfolded.

Santry posted several TikTok videos discussing the rug, which she described as being buried over two feet deep and possibly six feet long. Despite her attempts to unearth it, she and her boyfriend found it too firmly packed down and obstructed by the tree. During their digging, they also found a tree identification tag labeled Bloodgood.

After receiving numerous prompts from her TikTok followers, Santry contacted the police for assistance. However, the initial police response checked the area but felt they lacked the resources to investigate further and left.

Undeterred, Santry and her social media audience resumed digging with additional help, but their efforts were unsuccessful. Eventually, homicide detectives decided to return with cadaver dogs to reassess the situation.

On Thursday, in a live video, Santry documented how two cadaver dogs independently approached the area where the rug had been dug up and “sat,” resulting in the area around her home being cordoned off with yellow police tape.

By Friday morning, Santry reported seeing over nine police officers along with crime scene investigators at the location as the investigation continued on the 800 block of Cummington Road in Columbus, according to news reports.
