Bula FC has embarked on its journey to the OFC Professional League with a historic move, announcing the signing of their inaugural player, Gabiriele Matanisiga. The 30-year-old Fijian international joins from Rewa FC, where he made a significant impact as a centre back, marking the start of an exciting new chapter for both Matanisiga and the club.
Hailing from Nukubalavu, Matanisiga boasts an impressive track record. With 18 international caps to his name and considerable experience from his time with Wellington Olympic, he is expected to be a pivotal asset for Bula FC. His performances this season have been remarkable, particularly during Rewa FC’s dominant campaign in 2025. He secured the “Player of the Match” award at the FMF IDC tournament and clinched the Golden Boot at the 2025 Pacific Community Cup, underscoring his talent and potential to shine in the upcoming OFC Professional League.
Matanisiga’s journey to professional football is particularly inspiring. As the eldest child, he made the difficult decision to drop out of school to support his siblings while balancing his football training. “I dropped out of school as the eldest to help my siblings chase their careers, while squeezing in my own training, but God heard me,” he reflected, emphasizing his resilience and unwavering commitment to his dream. His determination is encapsulated in his belief that “difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations.”
As Matanisiga realizes his ambition of becoming a professional footballer with Bula FC, the club is preparing for their preseason and plans to announce additional signings soon. Notably, Rewa’s Delon Shankar and Josaia Sela have also confirmed their moves to the new franchise, adding to the team’s growing excitement as they enter this new chapter.
The steady influx of talent bodes well for Bula FC as they aim to establish themselves in the competitive environment of the OFC Pro League.
