Bula FC has strengthened its lineup by signing experienced player Ivan Kumar, who has been officially introduced as the club’s 13th Warrior ahead of the upcoming season. At 28 years old, Kumar hails from Vatuwaqa in Suva and represents a testament to perseverance in the world of football, as he did not come from a sports-oriented family.
Kumar’s football journey began in his childhood, influenced by his brothers, which led him to transition from casual backyard games to a more structured football career. His skills began to shine through the educational system, first at MGM Primary School and then at DAV College, where he earned a place in the Suva Under-19 team.
This opportunity propelled him into senior football under the guidance of renowned Suva coach Gurjeet Singh, who recognized his potential and integrated him into the Suva senior team. Kumar enjoyed several successful seasons there, which ultimately led to him representing the Fiji Under-23 team. He also gained valuable international experience during a stint in New Zealand’s winter league.
Upon returning to Fiji, Kumar became a crucial player for Rewa FC, where he solidified his reputation as a dependable defender over the past three years. He credits his family—his parents, wife, and daughter—for their unwavering support through rigorous training, travelling, and the pressures associated with playing at an elite level.
With his signing at Bula FC, Kumar feels he has achieved a significant milestone that he has targeted throughout his career. “It’s top-level football, professional. Now it’s about keeping the standard. I’ve always wanted to play professionally, and this contract is the opportunity I’ve been pushing for,” he expressed.
Kumar’s addition brings valuable experience and versatility to the Bula FC squad, enhancing their depth as the Warriors gear up for the challenges of the new season. His journey underscores the potential for success that comes with hard work and determination, providing an inspiring narrative for aspiring footballers everywhere.
