Extra Supermarket Bula FC is optimistic following their opening match in the inaugural OFC Pro League, having drawn 2–2 with Vanuatu United. As they prepare for their upcoming clash against South Island United, the Fiji-based team is eager to capitalize on the positive aspects from their debut performance.
Despite allowing a late equalizer, Bula FC demonstrated commendable signs of organization and team cohesion, remaining unbeaten in their first professional outing. This result has instilled confidence in the coaching staff, indicating that the foundational work laid during preseason is starting to reflect on the pitch, even as players continue to work on their match fitness.
Head coach Stephen Auvray praised the team’s performance, emphasizing the effectiveness of their preparations. “The last game demonstrated that there was a lot of effort behind the scenes. Although the players might not yet be ready to sustain a full 90 minutes, we managed to play effectively for 70 to 75 minutes,” he noted.
Auvray highlighted the surprising strength of the team’s structure on both offense and defense, stating, “Many observers were pleasantly surprised by the players’ understanding of their roles, showcasing a collective awareness and teamwork.” While the late goal prevented Bula FC from securing a win, Auvray believes the overall performance was still a source of reassurance.
Bula FC aims to build on this momentum when they face South Island United at 2 PM today, continuing their pioneering journey in Oceania’s new professional league. Excitement surrounds the match, which will be broadcast live on FBC 2, as fans look forward to supporting their team in this historic campaign.
