Bula FC delivered a commanding performance in the first half, securing a 2-1 victory against PNG Hekari FC in Round 3 of the OFC Pro League. Right from the outset, Bula FC showcased their determination to dominate, exhibiting impressive sharpness and control on the pitch.
The opening goal arrived in the 11th minute when Filipe Baravilala made a significant impact on the right flank. His pinpoint cross found Fergus Gillion, who expertly set up Thomas Dunn for a close-range finish. After a thorough VAR review to check for offside, the goal was confirmed, underscoring Bula’s early prowess.
Bula FC extended their lead in the 35th minute through a rapid counterattack. Following a defensive stand against a PNG Hekari free kick, Kaile Auvray demonstrated remarkable pace as he navigated past a defender and calmly placed a low shot into the near post, leaving goalkeeper Dave Tomare with no chance.
In response, PNG Hekari found the net just before halftime with a strike from Ati Kepo, but Bula’s strong first-half showing allowed them to maintain their lead going into the break.
The second half saw a shift in momentum, with PNG Hekari increasing their possession and applying pressure. However, Bula FC’s defense held firm, overcoming injury challenges to see the match through to its conclusion. Head coach Stephane Auvray reflected positively on the match, particularly praising the first half. He noted, “We should have scored one more to make the game easier for us. The second half wasn’t as impressive, so we still have work to do. I’m very happy for the players because they’ve been working hard, but tomorrow we get back to work.”
Auvray also emphasized the club’s focus on integrating young talent into their strategy, mentioning 18-year-old Ibraheem, who played as a left winger, and 20-year-old Ayman, who showed growth as a left central back during the match. “It was a difficult start for Ayman, but he became more comfortable as the game progressed. I’m happy for them,” he remarked.
This victory propels Bula FC onward in the league, as they aim to build on their performance and continue their winning streak. Looking ahead, the team is set to face Solomon Kings FC in their next match, presenting an opportunity to further enhance their standing in the competition. The resilience and adaptability shown by Bula FC indicate a promising trajectory in their campaign.
