An open house was held on June 17, 2025, to showcase three new Habitat for Humanity homes located on South Wilmoth Avenue in Ames, Iowa. The event drew community members, including former Ames Mayor Ann Campbell and Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Dan Nutini, who conducted tours of the freshly completed homes.
The houses were constructed with the assistance of high school students from DMACC’s Building Trades program, under the guidance of instructor Joe Brand. This initiative has a positive impact on local students, blending education with practical experience. Last year, these students successfully built three additional homes for Habitat, and they are set to continue their contributions with plans for two more houses in the upcoming academic year.
The newly completed homes feature modern amenities, including geothermal systems, improving energy efficiency and sustainability for their future occupants.
The collaboration between Habitat for Humanity and DMACC not only supports affordable housing efforts in the community but also equips students with hands-on skills and experience that prepares them for careers in construction and trades.
The successful completion of these homes is a testament to community spirit, resilience, and the commitment to providing quality housing for families in need, showcasing how teamwork can lead to meaningful change in a community.
