National Night Out brought communities together across Sacramento on Tuesday with various events aimed at fostering partnerships between local law enforcement and residents. Celebrated in neighborhoods from south Sacramento to North Highlands, this annual event is dedicated to strengthening relationships between police and the community.
DeJohn Cobbs, a recent newcomer to north Natomas, expressed his appreciation for the vibrant community atmosphere, remarking, “It feels good knowing that we got a strong community, very vibrant. Great vibes.” Cathy Stevens, highlighting the significance of the free activities offered for children, reflected on their importance for her family and her 7-year-old daughter. “It’s priceless,” she stated, emphasizing the community spirit at the north Natomas event, which featured notable attendees like Sacramento Mayor Kevin McCarty, Councilmember Lisa Kaplan, and Sacramento Chief of Police Kathy Lester. “It’s unbelievable. It’s so good because the community still comes out like this,” Stevens added.
Now in its 42nd year nationally, National Night Out serves as a poignant reminder that interactions with police often occur during challenging times, such as emergency calls. Sacramento police spokesperson Anthony Gamble noted, “This gives the community a chance to connect with us on a personal level,” underscoring the importance of building trust and familiarity in the community.
Overall, the event not only strengthens the bonds between law enforcement and neighborhoods but also highlights the positive aspects of community involvement and support. It serves as an opportunity for neighbors to come together and celebrate their collective commitment to safety and unity.
