For the first time since 2012, three programs from the region are vying for state championships in the Georgia High School Association football series. Gainesville, Buford, and Jefferson, the same teams that previously brought home state titles over a decade ago, are back in the spotlight, aiming for an impressive sweep.
Jacobs Media will broadcast all three championship matchups, starting with a highly anticipated Class 6A clash between Buford and Carrollton on Tuesday night. This matchup has transformed into one of Georgia’s most intense postseason rivalries. In a prior encounter, Buford clinched the Class 5A state title against Carrollton in 2021, while Carrollton avenged that loss last year by eliminating the Wolves in the Class 6A semifinals. Historically, Buford leads their rivalry with a record of 3-1.
The two top-ranked programs in various national polls are set to meet at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, with kickoff slated for 8 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on AM 550 and FM 102.9 WDUN.
Following this marquee matchup, championship coverage will continue on Wednesday, featuring the Class 3A and Class 5A finals. Jefferson, the top seed in Class 3A, is set to battle No. 3 seed Sandy Creek—another team that has been ranked No. 1 in state polls throughout the season. This exciting game is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. and will also be aired live on AM 550 and FM 102.9 WDUN.
The night will conclude with Gainesville, the No. 2 seed from Region 7-5A, facing off against Region 2-5A champion Thomas County Central at 7:30 p.m., also broadcast live on AM 550 and FM 102.9 WDUN.
All three championship games will be available for streaming at accesswdun.com, providing an opportunity for fans to catch every thrilling moment of this remarkable display of high school football excellence. The return of these three teams to the championship stage offers a sense of hope and excitement for the local communities, as they rally in support of their teams, celebrating the spirit of high school athletics.
