Buffaloes Dominate Knights in a Stunning Big 12 Showdown

In a highly anticipated match at FBC Mortgage Stadium, the UCF Knights were defeated by the Colorado Buffaloes, 48-21, marking UCF’s first home loss in the Big 12 Conference this season. The defeat brought UCF’s record to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play, while Colorado improved to 4-1, positioning them in a tie for first place in the conference.

The game started with Colorado quickly taking the lead. Travis Hunter scored the first touchdown on a 23-yard reception from quarterback Shedeur Sanders. By halftime, the Buffaloes had a comfortable 27-14 lead and extended their dominance in the second half, outscoring the Knights 21-7.

Despite outgaining Colorado in total yards (461 to 418), UCF’s four turnovers led to 14 points for the Buffaloes, significantly impacting the game’s outcome. Notably, Colorado’s Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig capped off the victory with a 95-yard touchdown return after forcing a fumble by UCF quarterback KJ Jefferson with 5:05 left in the game.

UCF’s hopes of closing the gap were briefly revived when Jefferson guided a 92-yard touchdown drive, culminating in a 15-yard pass to Xavier Townsend, making it 34-21 in the third quarter. However, Colorado quickly answered with a 10-yard touchdown pass from Shedeur Sanders to LaJohntay Wester, extending the lead to 41-21.

Colorado’s efficiency was evident, with Shedeur Sanders completing 28 of 34 passes for 280 yards and three touchdowns. Denver’s rushing defense held UCF to just 162 rushing yards, a low for the Knights who entered the game as the nation’s top rushing offense.

The game was briefly delayed due to lightning, but the excitement continued with both teams firing on all cylinders, showcasing their respective talents. Ultimately, UCF struggled to maintain momentum against a disciplined and opportunistic Colorado squad.
