Buck’s Take on Swift: No Jokes Allowed During Chiefs Games!

Since Taylor Swift became a familiar face at Kansas City Chiefs games, some announcers have stumbled when mentioning her during broadcasts. Joe Buck, however, intends to avoid such blunders.

During the Chiefs’ matchup against the New Orleans Saints on Monday, co-announcer Troy Aikman mistakenly referred to Swift as Travis Kelce’s “Mrs.” Buck made it clear that such mistakes were not acceptable in his household. “My daughters have warned me multiple times today: ‘Dad, I know you think you’re funny, don’t make any jokes,’” Buck explained to Aikman during the game.

Just before the incident, cameras captured Swift reacting enthusiastically to one of Kelce’s plays in the second quarter. As she cheered for her boyfriend, Aikman remarked, “The Mrs. likes it.” Buck quickly interjected, correcting him by pointing out, “You know they’re not married?” Aikman then acknowledged his error, saying, “I’m sure I’m in trouble for saying that.” Buck responded, “I mean, it happens.”

Aikman’s gaffe comes nearly a year after Tony Romo faced backlash for a similar mistake. During a Chiefs game earlier in the 2023-24 season, which would culminate in Kansas City winning the Super Bowl, Romo had referred to Swift as Kelce’s wife, before correcting himself to say girlfriend.

Currently on a break from her global Eras Tour, Swift has been spotted at several Chiefs games this season supporting Kelce. At her most recent appearance at Arrowhead Stadium, the 14-time Grammy winner wore a plaid dress, platform boots, and sparkling glitter freckles on her cheeks.

Following the Chiefs’ 26-13 victory, Kelce joined Swift in her suite for a moment of affection, which was caught on camera by a fan. The team remains undefeated with a record of 5-0 and is set to face the San Francisco 49ers, their 2024 Super Bowl opponents, on October 20.
