Bucks Sign AJ Green to Four-Year, $45 Million Extension

The Milwaukee Bucks have secured a four-year contract extension with shooting guard AJ Green worth $45 million, as confirmed by a league source to The Athletic. ESPN was the first to break the news.

At 26 years old, Green is coming off the most productive season of his three-year career, showcasing his ability as a key player for the Bucks. In the previous season, he played 73 games, averaging 7.4 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in 22.7 minutes per game while exhibiting sharp shooting by converting 42.7 percent of his five attempts from beyond the arc each game.

During the Bucks’ playoff run, which ended in a first-round loss to the Indiana Pacers, Green elevated his performance. He averaged 11.0 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in 27 minutes each game in the postseason, hitting an impressive 51.4 percent from three-point range on seven attempts per game. Notably, in a crucial Game 5, head coach Doc Rivers placed Green in the starting lineup, where he set a personal playoff best by scoring 19 points in 46 minutes, despite the team’s loss.

This season, Green has continued to prove his worth, starting all four of the Bucks’ preseason games. He averaged 11.3 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in 20.4 minutes per game, showcasing a strong shooting performance with 46.2 percent accuracy from three-point range on six attempts per game.

With this extension, the Bucks are reaffirming their confidence in Green as he continues to develop into a significant contributor for the team. This strategic move not only benefits Green, allowing him to grow within the franchise, but it also strengthens the Bucks’ roster as they aim for a deeper playoff run in the upcoming season. This commitment signals a hopeful outlook for both Green and the Bucks as they strive to enhance their competitive edge in the league.
