Bucks Look to Ride Momentum vs Raptors as Giannis Status Unclear

The Milwaukee Bucks made a strong start to their season with a 133-120 victory over the Washington Wizards, showcasing their revamped roster. Now, they face their first road challenge as they head to Toronto to take on the Raptors. Last season, the Bucks dominated the season series against Toronto, winning all three matchups, including a decisive 130-112 victory on January 17, where Giannis led the charge with a stellar 35 points and 13 rebounds.

The Bucks’ season opener showcased their potential, highlighted by quick ball movement and solid defense, despite some lapses during a 14-0 run by the Wizards in the third quarter. Giannis delivered an impressive performance, scoring 37 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. Gary Trent Jr. was the second leading scorer for Milwaukee with 17 points.

In contrast, the Raptors are riding high after their own impressive 138-118 win against the Atlanta Hawks, a team many praised for their strong offseason. RJ Barrett, known as the Maple Mamba, led Toronto’s attack with 25 points, eight rebounds, and five assists, while offseason addition Brandon Ingram contributed 16 points and nine rebounds. Additionally, second-year guard Gradey Dick made a notable impact, scoring 21 points and positioning himself as a potential Sixth Man of the Year candidate. Toronto’s defense was also formidable, limiting the Hawks to just 42.2% shooting and forcing 15 turnovers, including 10 steals.

In terms of player availability, the Bucks will be without Kevin Porter Jr. due to a left ankle sprain, which will also keep him sidelined for their next matchup against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Giannis is listed as questionable with a significant toe sprain on his left foot. On the Raptors’ side, rookie Collin Murray-Boyles (right forearm strain) and Ja’Kobe Walter (illness) are marked as questionable.

With Porter out, Ryan Rollins will step into the starting point guard role for the Bucks. Rollins has experience in similar situations and will be under scrutiny as he handles the pressure from the Raptors’ defense, with Giannis and Cole Anthony also expected to assist in ball-handling duties.

Fans can catch the action on the FanDuel Sports Network Wisconsin at 5:30 p.m. CDT. As both teams are looking to build momentum early in the season, this matchup promises to be an exciting showdown.
