Former Alabama cornerback Cameron Calhoun has announced his commitment to Ohio State after entering the NCAA transfer portal, according to reports from On3. Calhoun’s tenure at Alabama was brief, as he played just one season with the Crimson Tide. During that time, he recorded seven tackles, one pass deflection, and one fumble recovery. His most productive season came in 2024 while at Utah, where he tallied 21 tackles, one interception, and nine pass deflections.

Calhoun’s move to Ohio State marks the fourth program he will have been a part of in just four years, having also played for Michigan in 2023, where he contributed in two games on a national championship team. With two years of eligibility left, Calhoun returns to a familiar territory in search of greater opportunities.

Originally a three-star recruit from Cincinnati’s Winton Woods, Calhoun was highly regarded, ranked as the No. 12 prospect in Ohio and the No. 46 cornerback nationally, according to Rivals Industry Ranking. His journey highlights the volatility of college football, particularly in relation to player movement through the transfer portal, a phenomenon that is increasingly shaping team dynamics.

In addition to Calhoun, Alabama defensive lineman James Smith also committed to Ohio State recently. Smith, with 37 games of experience, brings significant skills to the Buckeyes, including a record of 50 tackles, 10.5 tackles for a loss, and 3.5 sacks. He enjoyed a standout 2025 season, which reflected his potential as a five-star recruit from Montgomery, Alabama’s Carver High School.

Ohio State appears poised to enhance its roster further with these recent commitments, aiming to elevate their performance in the upcoming season and potentially unlock even greater capabilities within their new players. With the dynamic nature of college football, both Calhoun and Smith’s transitions may well have a positive impact on the Buckeyes’ aspirations for success.
