The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have officially announced the elevation of outside linebacker Jason Pierre-Paul from the practice squad to the active roster, a move accompanied by the release of linebacker John Bullock.
At 36 years old, Pierre-Paul has had a notable career since being drafted in the first round by the New York Giants in 2010. After completing his rookie contract with the Giants, he signed a four-year deal worth $62 million that included $40 million in guaranteed money. In 2018, Pierre-Paul was traded to the Buccaneers in exchange for third- and fourth-round draft picks. During his time with Tampa, he restructured his contract, which allowed him to play the final year in 2019 at a base salary of $13.25 million.
Returning to the Buccaneers in 2020, Pierre-Paul signed a two-year contract worth $27 million, successfully completing that deal. He later played for the Baltimore Ravens during the 2022 season. In 2023, after a stint on the Saints’ practice squad, he joined the Miami Dolphins before reuniting with Tampa Bay last month.
So far in the 2025 season, Pierre-Paul has participated in two games for the Buccaneers but has not yet recorded any statistics. The veteran’s experience and leadership could be a significant asset for the Buccaneers as they continue to navigate their season. The team’s strategic decisions reflect their commitment to strengthening the roster, which may positively impact their pursuit of success in the coming games.
