The Washington Wizards are experiencing a bright spot in their recent history with the dynamic performances of their 2024 draft class. Both Alex Sarr and Kyshawn George have been standout players, but it is Bub Carrington who is finally finding his groove after an inconsistent start to the season.

Drafted by the Portland Trail Blazers at 14 and later traded to Washington, Carrington was initially viewed as a promising addition to the team. After an impressive rookie year where he played all 82 games and earned a spot on the All-Rookie Second Team, the start of his sophomore season took a downturn. While teammates Sarr and George thrived, Carrington struggled with consistency, shooting below 30% in several games and averaging just 6.7 points, 3.9 assists, and 3.8 rebounds by the end of November.

However, December has brought a resurgence for Carrington. He has turned his performance around, averaging 13.8 points, 4.8 assists, and four rebounds, while shooting 42.9% from the field. With double-digit scoring in all but two games this month, Carrington demonstrated his potential by scoring over 20 points in two of his last five games, including a strong performance against the Spurs where he scored 21 points with impressive efficiency.

The key challenge for Carrington remains maintaining this level of performance over time. Historically, he has had fluctuating stretches in his play, but this December signifies a positive change. The Wizards do not need him to score over 20 points in every game, but the consistency he has shown is vital for the team’s success, especially with injuries limiting their roster.

Wizards fans can take heart in Carrington’s development, especially given the current circumstances where he is stepping up when needed most. His progress serves as a reminder of the importance of patience in young talent and provides a hopeful outlook for the franchise’s future. As Carrington continues to harness his abilities, he is not only contributing to the team’s efforts but also solidifying his place as a key player in Washington’s lineup.
