The Bank of South Pacific (BSP), along with its insurance arm BSP Life, has made a significant contribution of $100,000 to the Fiji Cancer Society, aiming to support the country’s goal of eliminating cervical cancer. This generous donation will help fund the acquisition of a GeneXpert machine, which is essential for enabling immediate testing, facilitating earlier diagnosis, and ensuring timely treatment for high-risk individuals.
Salome Waqailiti, a public relations and communications specialist at BSP, stated that the fund presentation highlights the organization’s commitment to prosperity that goes beyond financial success. Waqailiti emphasized the importance of change driven by purpose, explaining that it is essential for institutions to give back to the communities that support them. She remarked, “We are proud to be part of an organization that understands prosperity is about more than financials. Health underpins prosperity. When women are healthy, families are stronger, communities are more resilient, and our collective futures are protected.”
Belinda Chan, CEO of the Fiji Cancer Society, expressed that the donation represents much more than just equipment—it is an investment in the infrastructure that enhances their operational capacity. “It enhances early detection, enabling faster, more reliable diagnoses and ensuring that women are identified and treated earlier. This leads to better outcomes, reduced disease burden, and more lives saved,” Chan stated. She also highlighted that the contribution builds efficiency and sustainability in the health system, develops local diagnostic capabilities, and supports timely, evidence-based care, thereby reinforcing their commitment to equity in healthcare.
Aligning with the World Health Organization’s goals, Chan noted that this contribution will accelerate Fiji’s progress towards the elimination of cervical cancer by 2030.
