The Boston Bruins are set to honor the century mark of their inaugural NHL game with the introduction of a new jersey. The team unveiled a special commemorative uniform for their Dec. 1 game against the Montreal Canadiens. This date marks 100 years since the Bruins played their first game against the Montreal Maroons, which they won 2-1 at Northeastern’s Matthews Arena.
The design of the jersey takes cues from the 1980s, a significant period in Bruins history, with some modern updates. The Bruins explained in a press release that the uniform features gold sleeves and socks with a contemporary twist on traditional striping, paying homage to the team’s legacy and former players.
Notable details include a unique design on the collar and bottom hemline. The collar showcases the score from the Bruins’ first game on Dec. 1, 1924 — Boston Bruins 2, Montreal Maroons 1. The bottom hem will display the team’s core values: tradition, grit, passion, and heart, highlighting qualities that the club upholds as they move forward.
Bruins president Cam Neely commented on the significance of the game and the jersey, emphasizing its importance for both the organization and its fans. He noted that the core values displayed on the hemline will serve as a reminder of the principles the team has embodied for a century.
As the Bruins have introduced various alternate jerseys in recent years, it remains uncertain whether this new Centennial Game jersey will become a lasting part of their uniform lineup.
