Bruins Look to Ride Geekie Heat in Sharks Showdown

In a thrilling display of skill, Morgan Geekie netted two goals against both the Anaheim Ducks and the Los Angeles Kings this past week, raising his season total to 16 goals—placing him just one behind the NHL’s scoring leader, Nathan MacKinnon of the Colorado Avalanche. This surge in performance marks a significant turnaround for Geekie, who had only scored two of his career-high 33 goals by December last season.

The Boston Bruins recently concluded a three-game road trip in California, managing to snap a two-game losing streak with a nail-biting 2-1 overtime victory over the Kings. Geekie reflected on his growing confidence, noting that he would have hesitated to take decisive shots in clutch moments last year. “It’s easy to build confidence when you have confidence. I think over the last year it’s slowly been building,” he remarked after his team’s latest triumph.

As they prepare for their next matchup against the San Jose Sharks on Sunday at SAP Center, the Bruins hold a season record of 13-10-0 and have shown improvement, boasting a 7-3-0 record over their last ten games. The Sharks, on the other hand, are struggling, having not achieved a win in regulation since November 11, which positions the Bruins as favorites for the upcoming game. Boston’s recently adjusted forward lineup, which includes Czech stars Matej Blumel, Pavel Zacha, and David Pastrnak on the top line, appears to be paying dividends in terms of offensive depth.

Furthermore, with goalie Jeremy Swayman notching his sixth win in seven starts by making 31 saves on Friday, the Bruins’ defensive front remains solid. The team is hopeful for the return of center Elias Lindholm, who has been sidelined due to a lower-body injury since October 30 but participated fully in practice on Saturday.

Statistically, the Bruins lead the Sharks in goals scored with 73 to 64, and they have shown superior performance on the power play, converting at 26.7% compared to San Jose’s 18.2%. The upcoming game is set for 8 p.m. on Sunday, broadcasted on NESN and WBZ-FM 98.5.

With promising developments for both player performance and team dynamics, the Bruins look to continue their momentum against the struggling Sharks, reinforcing their potential as playoff contenders this season.
