Reports from NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero indicate that the Browns have expressed interest in interviewing Grant Udinski, the 30-year-old offensive coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaguars, for their head coaching vacancy. Despite Udinski’s relative inexperience, having just completed his first season in the role, he has shown significant potential in the coaching field.
Udinski’s journey began after he finished his collegiate football career as a defensive end at Towson University. He entered coaching as a graduate assistant at Baylor in 2018 and quickly advanced through the ranks, serving as a coaching assistant with the Carolina Panthers from 2020 to 2021. In 2022, he joined the Minnesota Vikings’ coaching staff under head coach Kevin O’Connell. Within just a couple of years, Udinski showcased his ability to grow, moving up from an assistant to a head coaching position in his first season, and then to roles including assistant quarterbacks coach and assistant offensive coordinator by 2024.
While Udinski may not have the same level of play-calling experience as McVay, having previously served as Washington’s offensive coordinator for three of his seasons, he is still viewed as a rising star in coaching circles. With multiple head coaching vacancies available, Udinski finds himself in a favorable position, potentially on the cusp of landing a head coaching role or transitioning into play-calling duties if he remains with the Jaguars.
