Brooks Koepka, 35, announced on Tuesday that he is stepping away from LIV Golf after having been a prominent figure in the league since its inception in 2022. The five-time major championship winner concluded the 2025 season without claiming a title for the first time in five years and finished 31st in the league’s individual standings.

In a statement released by his representation, it was noted, “Brooks Koepka will be stepping away from LIV Golf… Family has always guided Brooks’ decisions, and he feels this is the right moment to spend more time at home. Brooks will continue to be a huge supporter of LIV Golf and wishes the league and its players continued success. Brooks remains passionate about the game of golf and will keep fans updated on what’s ahead.”

Koepka, who was ranked as the world’s No. 1 golfer for 47 weeks in 2018, boasts nine PGA Tour victories, including two U.S. Opens (2017-18) and three PGA Championships (2018-19, 2023). He faced challenges in the majors during 2025, missing the cut in three of four events.

The future of Koepka’s career remains uncertain, especially regarding a potential return to the PGA Tour. Current speculation suggests he may take the coming year to focus on family and possibly rejoin the PGA Tour in 2027. The PGA Tour currently enforces a one-year suspension for any golfers partaking in unauthorized competitions, including LIV Golf events.

Koepka would also need to establish his playing status on the PGA Tour after being inactive since 2021. Given his recent success as a major winner, he might bypass some qualifying processes but would still need to reapply for membership.

The PGA Tour expressed their well wishes for Koepka, emphasizing the tour’s commitment to providing the most competitive and lucrative environment for professional golfers. There remains a prevailing tension between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf, stemming from differing leadership perspectives on the state of the sport.

Scott O’Neil, CEO of LIV Golf, affirmed the mutual agreement regarding Koepka’s departure, stating, “Brooks is prioritizing the needs of his family and staying closer to home. We appreciate the significant impact he has had on the game and wish him continued success, both on and off the course.”

As Koepka embarks on this new chapter, his dedication to his family and the sport remains evident, leaving the door open for future opportunities in golf.
