A Brooklyn man has captured the title of Pedro Pascal look-alike at a recent contest held at the Son Del North Mexican restaurant in the Lower East Side, receiving not just a $50 prize, but also a year’s supply of burritos. George Gountas, known for his resemblance to the famed actor from “The Mandalorian” and “Game of Thrones,” was encouraged by his family to participate in the Father’s Day event, which featured nearly 30 competitors.
Gountas’ wife, Jenny Gania, spoke fondly about the moment, recalling how people first noticed her husband’s likeness when “Game of Thrones” premiered. She noted the contest was a perfect Father’s Day treat for him, despite his lack of social media presence. “But now he’s going to be everywhere,” she said lightheartedly.
The contest was initiated by the restaurant’s chef and co-owner, Annisha Garcia, inspired by Pascal’s humorous 2023 remark about the absence of good Mexican cuisine in New York City. The co-owner, Wim Shih, shared that the goal of the event was to bring joy amid challenging times, stating, “There’s just so much sadness in the world right now, and we wanted to be a bit of sunshine today amidst all that.”
Among the participants, one standout wore a t-shirt that read, “Protect the Dolls and all Immigrants,” highlighting a cause Pascal supports. The event marks a continuation of celebrity look-alike contests across the city, following a Timothée Chalamet look-alike competition that gained attention last October.
This event not only showcased the unique connection fans have with their favorite celebrities but also successfully created a festive atmosphere filled with laughter and community spirit, proving that joy can be found even in everyday moments.
