Denver Broncos wide receiver Josh Reynolds is recovering from two gunshot wounds sustained after he and another man were targeted in a shooting incident following a visit to a strip club last week.
The Broncos confirmed in a statement to the Associated Press that Reynolds was a victim of a shooting on Friday in Denver and received treatment for minor injuries. They added, “Out of respect for the legal process, we will defer further comment on this matter to the authorities.”
Authorities reported the arrest of two suspects, Luis Mendoza, 35, and Burr Charlesworth, 42, in connection with the shooting, which occurred around 3 a.m. on October 18 along Interstate 25 south of downtown Denver. The men face charges of attempted first-degree murder and first-degree assault, and police are working to identify any additional suspects. Consequently, the arrest reports are sealed to maintain the integrity of the investigation.
Local NBC affiliate KUSA-TV, which first covered the shooting, indicated that Reynolds was shot once in his left arm and once in the back of his head shortly after he and the other man left Shotgun Willies, a strip club.
Currently, Reynolds is on injured reserve due to a broken finger and did not join the Broncos for their Thursday night game against the New Orleans Saints on October 17. The shooting took place just hours after the Broncos’ victory over the Saints.
This week, Reynolds has been seen working out on a side field during team practices, though players on injured reserve are not available for media comments.
In his ninth NFL season and first with the Broncos, Reynolds signed a two-year, $9 million contract last offseason. He has participated in five games this season, starting one, and has made 12 receptions for 183 yards and one touchdown. Prior to joining Denver, he played three seasons with the Detroit Lions and has also been with the Tennessee Titans and the Los Angeles Rams, the team that drafted him in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft out of Texas A&M.
