Broncos’ Rookie QB Makes History in Ups and Downs Against Jets

The Denver Broncos faced off against the New York Jets in Week 4, aiming to build on their recent success after a strong 26-7 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, the game at MetLife Stadium began poorly for the Broncos.

Quarterback Bo Nix, the 12th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, secured his first NFL win last week but struggled significantly in the first half against the Jets. Nix became the first quarterback since at least 2000 to complete multiple passes in a half and still finish with negative passing yards.

In the first half, Nix completed seven of 15 passes but ended with -7 passing yards. This performance stands as the lowest by any quarterback in NFL history with at least 15 attempts, surpassing Ryan Leaf’s September 1998 record of 4 yards on 4 completions.

Despite the challenging first half, Nix bounced back after halftime, throwing his first NFL touchdown pass to Courtland Sutton late in the third quarter. The Broncos secured a narrow victory, defeating the Jets 10-9 and improving their record to 2-2 for the season.

Nix’s final statistics included 12 completions on 25 attempts for 60 yards and one touchdown. The Broncos are set to host the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 5.

In terms of quarterback depth, the Broncos have veteran Jarrett Stidham and former Jets draft pick Zach Wilson as their options following Nix.
