Denver Broncos wide receiver Josh Reynolds is undergoing recovery after sustaining two gunshot wounds following an incident last week. The shooting occurred after Reynolds and another individual left a strip club in Denver.
The Broncos issued a statement confirming that Reynolds was shot on Friday and treated for mild injuries. They stated that they will refrain from further comment to respect the ongoing legal process.
Denver police have arrested two suspects, Luis Mendoza, 35, and Burr Charlesworth, 42, in relation to the shootings, which took place around 3 a.m. on October 18 near Interstate 25 south of downtown. Both men are facing charges of attempted first-degree murder and first-degree assault. Authorities are currently investigating and attempting to identify any additional suspects, which has led to the sealing of the arrest reports to maintain the investigation’s integrity.
According to NBC affiliate KUSA-TV, Reynolds was shot once in the left arm and once in the back of the head. Reports indicate that Reynolds and the other man were pursued after leaving the Shotgun Willies strip club.
Reynolds is currently on injured reserve due to a broken finger and did not travel with the team for their game against the Saints on October 17. The shooting occurred shortly after the Broncos’ victory over New Orleans.
This week, Reynolds has been seen working out on the sidelines during practice, although players on injured reserve are not permitted to speak with the media.
Now in his ninth NFL season and first with the Broncos after signing a two-year, $9 million contract, Reynolds has played in five games this season, making one start and recording 12 receptions for 183 yards and a touchdown. Prior to joining Denver, he played three seasons with the Detroit Lions and has also been part of the Tennessee Titans and Los Angeles Rams, who drafted him in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft from Texas A&M.
