ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Broncos wide receiver Josh Reynolds was one of two individuals injured in a shooting in Denver last Friday morning.
In a statement released Thursday, the team confirmed, “Josh Reynolds was a victim of a shooting Friday in Denver and received treatment for minor injuries. Out of respect for the legal process, we will defer further comment on this matter to the authorities.”
According to police reports, Reynolds and another man were found near South Quebec Street and East Union Avenue following multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire. Reynolds sustained two gunshot wounds: one to his left arm and another to the back of his head.
Team insiders mentioned that Reynolds was treated and discharged from a Denver hospital just hours after the incident.
At 29 years old, Reynolds was unavailable for comment. He is currently on injured reserve following finger surgery but was seen participating in team activities this week, including on Thursday at the Broncos’ facility in south suburban Denver. He did not travel with the team for their game against the Saints on October 17 due to his injury status.
The police report indicates that Reynolds and two others had been at Shotgun Willie’s, a strip club in Glendale, Colorado, and departed around 2:45 a.m. on Friday. After leaving in an SUV, the group reported being followed by several vehicles, after which shots were fired.
Reynolds and the other man exited the SUV when it became inoperable on Interstate 25, the major highway running through Denver. The vehicle was later located by police, bearing multiple bullet holes.
The third member of their group, who was not in the SUV, was injured by shattered glass but did not suffer a gunshot wound.
Denver police subsequently announced the arrest of two suspects in connection with the shooting: Burr Charlesworth, 42, and Luis Mendoza, 35. They are currently facing charges of attempted first-degree murder and first-degree assault.
Investigators believe Mendoza trailed Reynolds and the others from the strip club after they exited.
