Kumail Nanjiani, Michael Urie, and Jenn Harris are set to join the Broadway cast of “Oh, Mary!” in pivotal roles, portraying Mary’s Husband, Mary’s Teacher, and Mary’s Chaperone, respectively. Their performances will run from August 4 through September 28 alongside Jinkx Monsoon, who takes the title role. Notably, both Nanjiani and Harris will be making their Broadway debuts with this production.
As part of the upcoming cast transition, Conrad Ricamora, James Scully, and Bianca Leigh—who have consistently played their roles since the show’s off-Broadway run—along with Tituss Burgess, currently portraying Mary Todd Lincoln, will conclude their performances on August 2. Tony Macht, who plays Mary’s Husband’s Assistant/Kyle, will continue with the production until the end of September.
Kumail Nanjiani, renowned for his work in “The Big Sick,” “Marvel’s Eternals,” and “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” adds a notable presence to the cast. Michael Urie, recently nominated for an Emmy for his role in the Apple TV+ series “Shrinking,” has an impressive Broadway history, with performances in “Once Upon a Mattress,” “Spamalot,” and “Torch Song.” Jenn Harris is recognized for her role as Clarice Starling in “Silence! The Musical,” and has also appeared in “American Fiction” and the CBS series “Elsbeth.”
“Oh, Mary!” is crafted by Tony Award-winning writer Cole Escola and directed by Tony Award winner Sam Pinkleton. The play explores the tumultuous world of Mary Todd Lincoln in the days leading up to President Abraham Lincoln’s assassination. Following its premiere off-Broadway at the Lucille Lortel Theatre in February 2024, “Oh, Mary!” made its Broadway debut in July 2024.
This fresh casting highlights the ongoing evolution of theater and the continued commitment to bringing diverse and celebrated talent to Broadway. The combination of established performers and fresh debuts promises to enrich the narrative and performance of this significant historical story.
