Broadway star Sutton Foster, known for her role in “Younger,” is set to end her marriage with screenwriter Ted Griffin just before their 10th wedding anniversary.
The 49-year-old actress filed for an uncontested divorce on Tuesday at the New York County Superior Court, as stated in official records. Foster and Griffin, 53, were married on October 25, 2014, and they have a 7-year-old daughter named Emily together.
Foster, a two-time Tony Award winner, is currently completing her performance as Princess Winnifred the Woebegone in the Broadway show “Once Upon a Mattress.” Griffin is known for his work on “Ocean’s Eleven” and has contributed to episodes of the ABC series “9-1-1.”
In a 2014 interview with USA TODAY, Foster discussed her role in the Broadway musical “Violet,” which earned her a Tony nomination for Best Actress. She related deeply to the character, who embarks on a journey to Oklahoma to address a facial scar resulting from an accident. At that time, Foster was engaged to Griffin.
“This will be my second marriage. I feel like I’m beginning a whole new chapter of my adulthood, and Violet’s journey speaks to me on so many levels,” Foster reflected. “She feels such shame and despair, and then she finally meets someone who sees beyond her flaws and sort of loves her because of them.
“It’s a powerful message, because no one is perfect, and we seek partners to share our lives with who can weather whatever lies ahead,” she continued. “I feel like I’ve found that person I want to get on the bus with. And that’s really exciting.”
