Brittany Snow recently shared her appreciation for Malin Åkerman’s supportive approach during the filming of their intimate scenes in the series “The Hunting Wives.” In an exclusive clip from Amanda Hirsch’s “Not Skinny But Not Fat” podcast, Snow detailed the differences she experienced while filming suggestive moments alongside a female co-star compared to male counterparts.
Reflecting on the experience, Snow, 39, noted, “There were so many mints on that set — to the point where both of us got sick. As women, you are so mindful of each other. With guys, sometimes they don’t care [and] there’s no mint in their mouth.” The actress praised Åkerman, 47, for her attentiveness and consideration while they filmed their steamy scenes, emphasizing that she and Åkerman were always checking in on each other’s comfort levels. Snow remarked, “It was just so nice and so different.”
The camaraderie between the two was further illustrated by an instance where Åkerman offered a selfless gesture to ensure Snow felt comfortable. Åkerman, recognizing her own openness to nudity as a Swedish actress, would suggest positioning herself to limit Snow’s exposure, which Snow appreciated deeply.
Based on May Cobb’s novel, “The Hunting Wives” follows Snow’s character, Sophie, who relocates from Boston to East Texas and becomes entangled with the glamorous socialite Margo, played by Åkerman. The show, which premiered in July, has gained attention not only for its plot but also for its bold representation of women over 40 in sexual contexts, countering the often-prevailing stigma in Hollywood that diminishes women’s sexual appeal after a certain age. Snow remarked, “It is very unfortunately rare to see women [having sex on screen at 40]. I love that our show brought new light to that. You don’t stop having sex when you are 40.”
Åkerman has also expressed her views on the dynamic interplay between her character’s power and sexuality, highlighting that it plays a significant role in her character’s manipulation of others in the story. She described this aspect of her character as both controversial and compelling, contributing to the show’s intrigue.
Despite initially appearing as a limited series, the success of “The Hunting Wives” on Netflix led to its renewal for a second season, with viewers anticipating the unfolding of new secrets and conflicts between characters Sophie and Margo. Snow teased about the upcoming season’s return during the podcast, promising that fans can expect it to come back quickly.
As the series continues to stream on Netflix, it pushes boundaries while celebrating female relationships and sexuality, reflecting a more inclusive narrative. The second season is set to explore the complexities and dangers of the characters’ interactions, raising the question of whether they are indeed the hunters or the hunted in their high-stakes social game.
