British Army Veteran Eyes Fiji’s 2026 General Elections

After 24 years of distinguished service in the British Army, Apisalome Naqasima is preparing to return to his homeland of Fiji with hopes of contributing to its future through participation in the next general elections. Naqasima, hailing from the village of Lawai in Nadroga, envisions a new chapter in his life where he aims to translate his extensive experience in the military and law enforcement into meaningful societal impact.

Reflecting on his formative years in Fiji, Naqasima attributes the strong moral and religious foundations instilled by his grandparents and his faith as vital components that guided him throughout his army career. Growing up on Bureta Street in Samabula North, he spent his educational years at Veiuto Primary School and Suva Grammar School. These early chapters laid the groundwork for a disciplined and service-oriented mindset.

In 2001, Naqasima made a pivotal decision to join the British Army, embarking on a journey marked by significant operational experiences, including deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. These challenges tested both his professional abilities and personal resilience, but the support of a loving family, including a wife who is a registered nurse, nurtured his drive to excel.

The end of Naqasima’s military career marks the beginning of new endeavors. Committed to lifelong learning, he is currently completing a Bachelor’s degree in business management at Northumbria University, aiming to serve as a positive role model for his children. His primary motivation is to demonstrate the value of continuous education and personal growth.

Naqasima’s aspirations in politics stem from a genuine desire to address critical issues facing Fiji, including the rise in drug-related crimes and challenges facing the country’s youth. Drawing from his background in security and organizational management, he seeks to implement solutions that would create a safer and more prosperous society.

His intent to run for the 2026 general elections reflects a commitment to leverage his skills and experiences towards the betterment of his hometown. Through his strong leadership and dedication to community service, Naqasima is poised to inspire positive change in Fiji.

His journey serves as a testament to the power of resilience and continuous self-improvement. If elected, Naqasima’s leadership could potentially pave the way for a more secure and thriving Fijian society, focusing on the well-being of future generations.
