At 6 feet 4 inches tall, Mata has earned 38 international caps for Fiji, scoring 11 tries during his two seasons with the Bears under the guidance of Pat Lam. Director of Rugby Pat Lam expressed his satisfaction with Mata’s decision to remain with the Bears, recognizing him as a vital asset in the team’s journey towards achieving their competitive goals. “In his first season, we made a return to the top four, and this year we are well positioned to contend for silverware,” Lam remarked. He highlighted Mata’s qualities as one of the most talented and powerful ball carriers and defenders in rugby today, affirming the importance of his physical skills to the Bears’ playing strategy.
Mata shared his excitement about continuing with the Bears, appreciating the unwavering support from coaches, teammates, and fans since his arrival. He reiterated the ambitious objectives of the club and expressed his determination to help the team reach significant milestones. “Playing in front of the Bears fans at Ashton Gate brings me great joy, and I’m eager to embrace what lies ahead,” he stated.
With Mata committed to the team for another season, the Bristol Bears are well-positioned to build on their recent accomplishments and continue their quest for glory in upcoming competitions. The team’s strengthened lineup promises an exciting season ahead, filled with potential triumphs and memorable moments.
