Brink Shines in Sparks’ Thrilling Double-OT Victory

Cameron Brink made a significant impact in the second half, leading the Los Angeles Sparks to a dramatic 108-106 double-overtime victory against the Seattle Storm on Friday night. Making her second appearance following a recovery from a torn ACL, Brink contributed seven points, four rebounds, three blocks, and two steals during her 12 minutes off the bench.

Brink’s critical performance unfolded particularly in the fourth quarter, where she scored all her points within a six-minute span, starting with a three-pointer that narrowed the deficit to two points. Although her minutes were limited due to her ongoing recovery and foul troubles—she recorded five fouls in total, three of which were in the fourth quarter—her presence was felt on the court.

Brink became one of only three players in WNBA history to achieve a combined total of 10 points, rebounds, and assists, as well as five stocks, within 13 minutes or fewer. Following the game, Sparks head coach Lynne Roberts emphasized her excitement to see Brink play without restrictions, underscoring her importance to the team.

In addition to Brink’s contributions, the Sparks’ starting lineup excelled, with four out of five starters scoring at least 20 points. Rickea Jackson led the team with 27 points, hitting the crucial game-tying layup to push the game into overtime, while Kelsey Plum added 22 points and seven assists. Dearica Hamby recorded her fourth double-double in five games with 21 points and 13 rebounds, and her decisive layup with just 4.3 seconds left in double-overtime secured the victory for the Sparks.

On the other side, Nneka Ogumike delivered a standout performance for the Storm, scoring a season-high 37 points on effective shooting. The loss puts Seattle at 16-12, tied with the Indiana Fever for the fifth seed, as they struggle to find consistency in their recent outings, alternating wins and losses over the past nine games.

As the Sparks continue to find their rhythm, having won six of their last eight games, they’re positioning themselves strongly in the playoff race, now just two games behind the Las Vegas Aces for the eighth seed.

This thrilling matchup not only showcased Brink’s potential as a key player for the Sparks but also highlighted the team’s improving performance as they gear up for a crucial stretch in the season.
