The Bright Journey medical team is set to return to Fiji to perform cataract surgeries at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva. Wang Yuan, the Minister-Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Fiji, has confirmed that the team will arrive soon, continuing its dedicated mission of providing essential eye care. Last year, the team successfully completed over 100 surgeries, with more than 60 surgeries conducted in 2023 alone.
Hu Jinjun, the Minister of the Publicity Department of Guangdong Province, highlighted this visit as a testament to the strengthening ties between Fiji and China. He recalled a mutual commitment made during discussions last year between Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and President Xi Jinping, aimed at fostering collaborative efforts that benefit both nations and promote peace throughout the Pacific region.
The ongoing partnership has consistently delivered life-changing surgeries to many Fijians, significantly enhancing their quality of life and solidifying diplomatic and cultural relationships. Over the years, the Bright Journey team has performed free cataract surgeries for over 200 individuals, earning the endearing title of “Angel of Light.”
This initiative not only addresses vital health concerns but also showcases the impactful nature of international collaboration. Through these healthcare advancements, such joint efforts not only enhance the socio-economic landscape but also promote goodwill, paving the way for a more promising future for all involved. The continuation of this medical outreach exemplifies the positive outcomes that can arise from global partnerships, leaving hope and improvement in its wake.
