Bridgerton has cast Yerin Ha as the love interest for Benedict Bridgerton, portrayed by Luke Thompson, in the upcoming fourth season of Shonda Rhimes’ Netflix series.
According to sources, Ha will play the role of Sophie Beckett, who embarks on a slow-burning romance with Benedict as depicted in Julia Quinn’s novel “An Offer From a Gentleman,” which serves as the basis for Season 4.
Netflix’s official synopsis reveals that “the fourth season of Bridgerton will focus on bohemian second son Benedict. Although his elder and younger brothers are happily married, Benedict is reluctant to settle down until he encounters a mesmerizing Lady in Silver during his mother’s masquerade ball.”
This intriguing “Lady in Silver” is Sophie. In the novel, she is the daughter of an earl and one of his household maids. Although she was raised in his home, she was never acknowledged as family, leading to a difficult childhood marked by her stepmother and stepsisters’ mistreatment.
While the search for a romantic partner for Benedict is central to the third book, the series altered the original sequence, with Season 3 focusing on the fourth book, “Romancing Mister Bridgerton,” highlighting the romance between Colin Bridgerton, played by Luke Newton, and Penelope Featherington, portrayed by Nicola Coughlan.
Sophie’s casting has been eagerly anticipated, especially following Netflix’s announcement in July that the upcoming season would explore her love story with Benedict.
The finale of Season 3 hinted that Benedict’s romance might commence soon, as Eloise, played by Claudia Jessie, who is heading to Scotland with Francesca, promises to return in time for their mother’s renowned masquerade ball. This scene led to speculation since it is at this ball that Sophie and Benedict first meet.
Yerin Ha gained recognition for her role as Kwan Ha in the live-action adaptation of Halo, where she appeared for two seasons. She is also set to feature in the upcoming Max prequel series “Dune: Prophecy,” scheduled to debut on the platform in November. Her previous credits include various Australian television series and the independent horror film “Sissy.”
