Brewers Look to Spark Homestand as Woodruff Faces Diamondbacks in Opener

The Brewers will look to salvage their homestand as they open a four-game series with the Arizona Diamondbacks after dropping the final game of their prior set with the Giants.

Brandon Woodruff will get the start for Milwaukee. He’s coming off his bumpiest outing of the season, yet he owns a strong 2.47 ERA. In his last appearance, he worked 4 1/3 innings and surrendered three earned runs on five hits, with three walks and six strikeouts. One bright note from that outing was a season-high — a 94-pitch count.

Arizona counters with Eduardo Rodríguez, making his 23rd start of the year. He comes into the game with a 5.40 ERA and has not been dominant this month, allowing 12 earned runs over 24 innings.

Milwaukee’s lineup features Brice Turang leadoff, followed by Caleb Durbin, Andruw Monasterio, and Andrew Vaughn in the infield. In the outfield, Isaac Collins is in left, Blake Perkins in center, and Sal Frelick in right, with Christian Yelich serving as the designated hitter. William Contreras gets the start behind the plate. After a strong stretch during the team’s win streak, Contreras’ numbers have dipped recently, posting a .154 batting average over the past week, though he has drawn five walks while striking out three times.

The game will be broadcast on the Brewers Radio Network, as well as FanDuel Sports Wisconsin and Telemundo Wisconsin. First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 p.m. CT.

What to watch: Woodruff will try to build on his big-pitch-count outing and work deeper into the game this time around, providing Milwaukee with a steadying presence against a Diamondbacks lineup led by Rodríguez. If Turang and the top of the order can manufacture baserunners, the Brewers can set a positive tone for the series. For those following at home, the mix of starting pitching, a slightly reshuffled lineup, and the continued development of young players like Turang and Frelick will be key storyline threads as Milwaukee aims to regain momentum on the homestand.
