The Milwaukee Brewers have made a noteworthy addition to their pitching roster, acquiring left-hander Rob Zastryzny from the New York Yankees in exchange for cash. As part of this move, the Brewers optioned right-handed pitcher Elvis Peguero to Triple-A Nashville.
Zastryzny, who is 33 years old, has a prior stint with the Brewers, where he excelled last season, achieving a 1-0 record and a remarkable 1.17 ERA over nine games. However, this season, he has primarily played in the minor leagues, notching a 4.50 ERA in 13 relief appearances for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, the Yankees’ Triple-A affiliate.
In his major league career, Zastryzny has a solid 4-0 record with a 4.30 ERA, accumulating 54 strikeouts across 67 innings pitched in 54 appearances. His experience includes time with various teams, including the Chicago Cubs (2016-2018), New York Mets (2022), Los Angeles Angels (2022), Pittsburgh Pirates (2023), and now the Brewers once again in 2024.
On the other hand, Peguero, 28, has had a challenging season with Milwaukee, holding a 0-0 record and a 4.91 ERA in his six relief appearances. His overall career stats reflect an 11-10 record with a 4.12 ERA and 118 strikeouts over 139.2 innings pitched.
This acquisition could rejuvenate the Brewers’ bullpen as they seek to strengthen their pitching staff for the remainder of the season, showing a proactive approach to improving their competitive edge. The return of Zastryzny may provide a much-needed boost as he brings both experience and a commendable track record from his previous season with the team.
