Brewers Bullpen: Unlikely Heroes Stepping Up for Playoff Push

The Milwaukee Brewers have showcased a strong bullpen throughout the regular season, leading the National League with a 3.11 bullpen ERA. While many fans may recognize only closer Devin Williams, the reigning NL Reliever of the Year, he has significantly contributed since returning from a back injury that sidelined him for the first four months of the season. Williams has posted an impressive 1.25 ERA, recorded 14 saves, and achieved a remarkable 43.2 percent strikeout rate.

In Williams’ absence, Trevor Megill stepped up, securing 20 saves early in the season and now serving as Williams’ setup man with his impressive 100 mph fastball. Joel Payamps, a right-handed reliever with a 2.78 ERA over the last two seasons, has also taken on crucial innings. The left-handed duo of Jared Koenig and Aaron Ashby adds further depth to the bullpen, exemplifying the Brewers’ knack for finding talent in unexpected places. Koenig transformed from a journeyman swingman to a valuable asset with a blazing fastball, while Ashby has emerged as a critical relief option after a lengthy recovery from shoulder surgery. Additionally, veteran righty Joe Ross has revitalized his career after missing two years due to an elbow injury, thanks to the Brewers’ guidance.
