Residents of Brevard County can expect some minor traffic delays this afternoon as the annual Hanukkah Parade makes its way from Satellite Beach to Viera. This vibrant spectacle features a procession of around 100 decorated vehicles, each showcasing an eight-branch menorah.
The parade is part of the largest celebration of the eight-day Hanukkah festival and will culminate at The Avenue in Viera, located at 6729 Colonnade Ave. There, attendees can participate in The Snow Festival organized by Chabad Viera, which will include diverse offerings such as food, acrobatic performances, and the lighting of a giant menorah.
Organized by the Chabad of the Space and Treasure Coasts, based in Satellite Beach, this event also highlights expanded public menorah displays throughout major cities in Brevard County, including Melbourne, Indialantic, and Satellite Beach.
Rabbi Mendel Osdoba of the Chabad, an organizer of the parade, emphasized the significance of the menorah as a global symbol of freedom and diversity. He stated, “Its message is to take pride in one’s own culture and ethnicity and enlighten the world with one’s unique gifts.” He noted that the menorah display serves as a source of joy and inspiration for people from various backgrounds.
The procession will depart from the Chabad location in Satellite Beach along State Road A1A, proceeding to U.S. 1, with an arrival time at The Avenue in Viera expected around 4:30 p.m. The festivities will officially kick off shortly thereafter, with the menorah being lit at approximately 5:30 p.m., just before sunset.
This celebration not only marks the spirit of Hanukkah but also promotes community togetherness and cultural appreciation, showcasing the rich diversity within Brevard County. It’s a beautiful reminder of the power of festivals to unite individuals around shared values of freedom and joy.
