Brentford has announced the signing of Fábio Carvalho from Liverpool on a five-year contract with an option for a further year.
The attacking midfielder made 21 appearances for Liverpool after joining the club in 2022. During the recent pre-season tour in the United States, he showcased his abilities by scoring in victories against both Arsenal and Manchester United.
Carvalho initially gained recognition at Fulham, where he had an impressive season in the 2021/22 Championship, scoring ten goals and providing eight assists at just 19 years old, helping his team secure promotion. He spent last season on loan at RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga and Hull City in the Championship, excelling particularly with Hull, where he scored nine goals in 20 outings.
Brentford head coach Thomas Frank expressed enthusiasm about the new addition, highlighting Carvalho’s versatility in offensive positions and his capability to create and convert chances. Frank emphasized that Carvalho’s qualities, work ethic, and cultural fit will contribute significantly to the team.
Carvalho, originally from Portugal, joined Benfica’s youth academy before moving to London at age 11. He played for Balham and later joined Fulham in 2015, breaking into the first team during the 2020/21 season. After an outstanding season that led to his transfer to Liverpool, he contributed three goals in his first year at Anfield, including a dramatic late winner against Newcastle United.
Following loan spells at Leipzig and Hull, he returned to the field with Liverpool in the pre-season, where he continued to impress.
