Brentford has officially signed Fábio Carvalho from Liverpool on a five-year contract, which includes an option for an additional year.

The attacking midfielder made 21 appearances for Liverpool since his arrival in 2022. He showcased his talent during the club’s pre-season tour in the United States this summer, scoring in victories against Arsenal and Manchester United.

Carvalho joined Liverpool after making his mark at Fulham, where he scored 10 goals and provided eight assists as a 19-year-old in the Championship’s promotion-winning season for 2021/22. Last season, he had loan spells at RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga and Hull City in the Championship. His time at Hull was particularly noteworthy, as he scored nine goals in 20 matches towards the end of the season.

Brentford head coach Thomas Frank commented on the signing, stating, “Fábio is a player with a lot of qualities. He can play in all of the front three or four positions in a 4-3-3 or a 4-2-3-1. His best position is probably as a no.10 or coming in from the left.” Frank highlighted Carvalho’s offensive abilities, including his skill to dribble past opponents, provide key passes, and convert scoring opportunities. He emphasized that Carvalho brings a unique skill set that is not commonly found in the current squad, which will enhance the team’s overall performance.

Frank also praised Carvalho’s work ethic and mentality, mentioning his adaptability to the team’s culture and character, expressing enthusiasm for his addition to the squad.

Carvalho was born in Portugal and was part of Benfica’s youth academy before relocating to London with his family at 11 years old. After playing for Balham, he joined Fulham in 2015 and broke into the first team during the 2020/21 season at just 18, scoring his first goal in a match against Southampton, although Fulham was relegated that year.

In the following Championship season, he made 36 appearances, contributing to 18 goals as Fulham secured promotion. After that, he transferred to Liverpool, where he played 21 games and scored three goals in his debut season, including a dramatic last-minute goal against Newcastle United at Anfield.

He started last season on loan at RB Leipzig, appearing in nine Bundesliga matches before being recalled. He later moved to Hull City for the latter half of the season, where he excelled with nine goals in 20 games, helping the team narrowly miss the playoffs.

During Liverpool’s pre-season tour in America, Carvalho participated in all three matches, scoring against both Arsenal and Manchester United.
