Brentford Football Club has appointed Keith Andrews as the new manager, stepping up from his previous role as the set-piece coach. This transition follows the departure of Thomas Frank, who has accepted a position at Tottenham Hotspur after they parted ways with Ange Postecoglou.
Thomas Frank, who had been with Brentford since 2018 and successfully led the team to the Premier League, left just after Tottenham secured the Europa League title, marking their first major trophy win since 2008. While former assistant coach Justin Cochrane was initially seen as a favorite to take over, he joined Frank at Spurs, prompting Brentford to promote Andrews.
At 44, this marks Andrews’s first managerial position. His playing career included notable stints with clubs such as Wolves, MK Dons, Blackburn, and Brighton, and he represented Ireland 35 times. His coaching trajectory includes roles with MK Dons and as an assistant with the Ireland Under-21s and senior teams.
Brentford’s director of football, Phil Giles, previously praised Andrews’s abilities, especially in set-piece management. The club values continuity within its coaching staff following Frank’s lengthy tenure.
Brentford faces significant changes this summer, with key player transfers looming, including goalkeeper Mark Flekken’s departure to Bayer Leverkusen and potential moves for Christian Norgaard and Bryan Mbeumo, amidst reported interest from Arsenal and Manchester United respectively.
This new chapter for Brentford under Andrews offers hope for stability and growth, with the potential to build on the successful strategies implemented by Frank during his time at the club. Andrews’s prior experiences could provide a solid foundation for the team as they prepare for the upcoming season.
