During the second day of the official mission in Dubai, Brazilian Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, focused on advancements in integrated logistics between Brazil and the United Arab Emirates. The agenda addresses key areas such as air connectivity, port modernization, and attracting investments, all aimed at strengthening bilateral relations.
Minister Costa Filho met with Mohammed Al Mansouri, the UAE’s Secretary of Infrastructure and Transport, to discuss projects concerning the diversification of air routes, as well as the leasing and concession of ports, airports, and waterways. “It was a very productive meeting where we discussed integrated logistics, decarbonization, and models of port modernization that make the UAE a global benchmark,” Costa Filho emphasized, highlighting the importance of technical exchanges to connect Brazil with new technologies and investments.
The agenda also includes discussions on technological cooperation, sustainability, the decarbonization of maritime transport, and the expansion of biofuels. The previous day, the minister visited the Dubai Airshow, an international aerospace fair featuring over 1,500 exhibitors and 148,000 attendees.
On Wednesday morning, he held a meeting with Steve Allen, CEO of Dnata, a company that operates across several Brazilian airports. They explored potential partnerships to bolster domestic aviation. “Dnata plays a significant institutional role for our country, reflecting the growing confidence international markets have in Brazil and its aviation sector,” stated the minister, emphasizing the federal government’s commitment to expanding Brazil’s international agenda.
Air connectivity was a central theme in various negotiations. Costa Filho also met with Tim Clark, President of Emirates Airlines, to discuss expanding operations in Brazil, particularly focused on the Northeast region. “We had a productive and optimistic meeting with representatives from Emirates, and I am confident we will see new air operations for our country. I am vigorously working to bring an Emirates flight from Dubai to the Northeast,” he said.
Emirates Airlines operates approximately 260 aircraft and services 148 destinations. In Brazil, it runs flights at São Paulo/Guarulhos and Rio de Janeiro/Galeão airports and has codeshare agreements with Azul, Gol, and Latam.
This ongoing collaboration between Brazil and the UAE illustrates a positive step forward in enhancing logistics, promoting sustainability, and improving air connectivity between the nations, heralding a future rich in opportunities for both countries.
